Open-face, "Bassine" round-shaped pocket watch, with subsidiary seconds at 6 and nine horological complications: Minute-repeater on two steel gongs (activated by the slide at 9 o'clock); Half-instantaneous perpetual calendar; Date of the month (subsidiary dial at 6 o'clock); Day of the week (subsidiary dial at 9 o'clock; indications given in French); Month of the year (subsidiary dial at 3 o'clock; indications given in French); Four-year cycle of leap-years (subsidiary dial at 3 o'clock); Phases of the moon (aperture at 12 o'clock); Diurnal (day-time) and nocturnal (night-time) hours with a 24-hour (AM-PM) scale (subsidiary dial at 9 o'clock); "Sector"-type equation of time (subsidiary dial at 12 o'clock). In its first 150 years of activity, before the creation in the early 1980s of a series of four pocket watches for the Chronométrie Beyer, Zürich, and the elaboration of the four Calibre 89, the Patek Philippe manufacture did not produce than eleven watches with equation of time. The first (1865) being endowed with only an engraved table of equation of time table, either without a clock mechanism; the eleventh being the "Supercomplication" (1933) of Henry Graves Jr. (1868-1953), New York.
The present watch is therefore the twenty-first or the twenty-second watch ever made by Patek Philippe with this horological complication whose mechanism is fitted with a mobile making a single rotation per year (the cam equation of time).
