The painting was created in 1929.

In the painting on offer, Maurice Utrillo captured the municipality of Montmagny, which was very important to him. He stayed there at the beginning of his artistic career to recover from alcohol addiction and created several views of the village around 1904-1906. Similar to other works, a wall divides the picture plane and directs the viewer's gaze along the tree-lined alley to the tower of the Saint-Thomas church in the right background. The composition conveys an unagitated, cheerful atmosphere, which the artist achieved by using a light color palette.
