The work was created around 1930.
The artist's personal attachment to Montmartre is expressed in a series of paintings of the same places, captured from different perspectives. In the present work, the artist devoted himself to the small round tower at the intersection of Rue du Mont-Cenis/Rue Marcadet. The historical building from the 16th century was initially part of a mill complex, which was converted into a porcelain factory in the 18th century and an inn during the Belle Époque that was the main meeting place for artists' bohemians of the time. Utrillo focused in this depiction exclusively on shades of red, white and blue - the tricolore - accompanied by strong contours and a concise, naive graphic style.

Das Werk entstand um 1930.
Die enge Verbindung zwischen Maurice Urtillo und dem Pariser Montmartre-Quartier fand ihren Ausdruck in einer Reihe von Gemälden mit örtlichen Sujetkonstanten, festgehalten aus verschiedenen Perspektiven. Im vorliegenden Werk widmete sich der Künstler dem kleinen Rundturm an der Kreuzung Rue du Mont-Cenis/Rue Marcadet. Das historische Bauwerk aus dem 16. Jahrhundert war zunächst Teil eines Mühlekomplexes, der im 18. Jahrhundert zur Porzellanfabrik und in der Belle Époque zur Gaststätte - Haupttreffpunkt damaliger Künstlerbohème - umgenutzt wurde. Utrillo konzentrierte sich in der Darstellung ausschliesslich auf Rot-, Weiss- und Blautöne - die Tricolore - in Begleitung von kräftigen Konturen und eines prägnanten, naiv-grafischen Stiles.
